BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH FOR DORIS R. GAFFNEY
The youngest of four (4) children, Doris R. Gaffney is the daughter of Mrs. Hazel P. Gaffney and the late Rev. Edwin C. Gaffney, Sr. She is a native of Spartanburg, S.C. where she graduated from Spartanburg High School.
After high school, she attended Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, Tennessee and Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. She traveled for 3 years, singing and ministering throughout the United States including Alaska and Hawaii and into Canada with L.I.G.H.T. Ministries, an evangelistic ministry which was headquartered in El Cajon, California. She has been involved in continuing education over the years and is a 2009 graduate of Kingdom University-Atlanta under Dr. Cindy Trimm.
Her involvement in pageantry over the years included being crowned Miss Black Spartanburg 1986, Miss Fort Mill 1989 and being named 3rd Runner-Up to Miss South Carolina 1989. Serving in various venues as a pageant stage and talent coach, vocal coach, pageant judge and Assistant Director and Director of the Miss Black Spartanburg Pageant provided her opportunities to share her faith with others and encourage them in theirs.
Doris was called to serve as Minister of Music and Director of Music for a number of churches over the years, including her home church, Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Inman, S.C. and has also functioned as a music and worship workshop clinician. She is a former member of Donald Lawrence and the Tri-City Singers, recording on their first project in 1993, A Songwriter’s Point of View, as well as their final project Finale: Act One and Finale: Act Two in 2005. In 1999 God gave her a vision to begin a women’s music ministry, the Women of Praise, during her tenure as Music Director at a local church in Spartanburg. However, the ministry’s actual inception occurred in 2000, and after some traumatic and transforming circumstances in 2004, she was led by God to change the name to the Women of Worship. They continue their music ministry as they seek after and pursue greater intimacy in their relationships with God through a deeper knowledge and understanding of His word, thus experiencing His transforming power in their lives to become true worshippers.
In 2005 Doris was prompted by the Lord that she was to birth a ministry and that it was to be called H.O.P.E. Ministries which stands for “Healing Of People Everywhere”. After a period of seeking God for guidance, wisdom and His divine timing, H.O.P.E. Ministries was birthed on September 19, 2009. This Kingdom Movement continues as a vibrant, relevant, empowering Bible study whose objective is: “Kingdom Living through Kingdom Learning…Kingdom Learning for Kingdom Living” as we “make ready a people prepared for the Lord”. Luke 1:17
Doris accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at the age of 8. Her greatest desire in life is to be in the center of God’s Kingdom purpose, plan and will for her life; to fulfill her assignment on this earth and finish her course with joy (Acts 20:24); and influence as many people as possible toward a more vital and intimate relationship with Jesus Christ through Kingdom learning.
